  • Introduction

    This online course is designed to guide you in the process of producing informative podcasts. After completing the course, you will be better equipped to support your students in creating quality podcasts in class. Six modules are offered with articles, videos, activities, examples, and pedagogical resources to help you complete the tasks.

    Throughout this training, you will be invited to reflect, collaborate, create, experiment and share. Your contribution is valuable to the development of your competencies as well as others.

     

    Modalities 

    The online course is proposed in an asynchronous format with activities that are not constrained by a calendar, however, it would be recommended to collaborate with colleagues for some of them.

    General Objective

    Understand the podcast production process and pedagogical practices to bring students to create and share their production on the BaladoWeb platform hosted on the BAnQ website.

    Success Criteria and Badge Opportunities

    As you progress in the modules, you will be offered challenges you can decide to complete or not. You will establish your success criteria according to your needs. Badges will be awarded when you succeed in completing the associated challenges.

      Introduction

      This module presents the history of the BaladoWeb project and its up-to-date version developed in collaboration with BAnQ.

      It will introduce our framework and pedagogical references used to create this course. It is an opportunity to experience an authentic project and integrate digital technology while having fun with a unifying, cross-curricular, significant and multimodal project.

        Introduction

        Podcasts have their own specificities, vocabulary, characteristics, and structure. This module introduces you to definitions, examples, and activities to explain the podcast genre. 

        The first part explains what podcasts are, and provides the vocabulary specific to that genre. The second part invites you to think about their characteristics and structure.

        3. Understand the text features of a podcast and its structure

        Introduction

        When preparing a podcast, it is important to take the time to prepare the research that will be shared with listeners. Since the focus of this online training is about informative podcasts, we will present an overview of the four steps involved in the Inquiry Process.

        You will be invited to plan a research, know when and where to search for information adapted to students’ level, analyze the reliability and accuracy of the chosen resource and be able to support students in the process.

        1. To familiarize yourself with the key elements of the inquiry process.
        2. Find pertinent and reliable sources about your podcast topic.

        Introduction

        As seen in the previous modules, an informative podcast has its own characteristics:  vocabulary, characteristics, structure and content. 

        After finding pertinent information, we need to select the content that will be used in our podcast, organize the script according to our intention and determine the order in which we will present our ideas. 

        This module will help you prepare you to support your students in the planning and structuring of their podcast scripts.

      4. Introduction

        The aim of producing a podcast is to be heard and understood by an authentic audience.  In order to ensure quality audio, we need to work on specific prosodic elements with students to improve their fluency, accuracy, and pronunciation. Working on them can improve delivery of the message but cannot be evaluated. It is not an oral interaction!

        Objectives

        1. Annotate a text to help the delivery.
        2. Practice delivery.

        Introduction

        It is now time to record your podcast! To get there, you listened to differents models, understand its structure, plan and do a research, prepare your script and prepare yourself to deliver the text. 

        In this module, we invite you to prepare your storyboard, explore digital tools to record and edit your podcast and tips to organize work in the classroom. 

        Objective

        1. Record and edit an audio clip to produce a podcast.

        Introduction

        Before publishing a podcast, it is essential to respect norms of quality. As educators, it is our responsibility to teach students to respect the publishing netiquette. 

        In this module, you will have the opportunity to understand the rights and responsabilities of publication. After an overview of the BaladoWeb platform, you will be able to create an account and publish your podcast. 

        Objectives

        1. Understand the norms for publishing a podcast. 
        2. Discover the BaladoWeb platform. 
        3. Publish your podcast.
